Gift inspiration

So I thought it would be nice to share what I got for my 21st birthday, as it is a special birthday and I got some really special gifts.

I also thought this could be a helpful guide for those who have birthdays up-coming and are at a loss for what they want, think they need or simply desire. More importantly, I thought it could be a helpful gift guide to those who have friends and families birthdays in the near future and have no clue what to get someone.

Jewellery: You can never go wrong with a piece of jewellery. No matter what kind, a ring, necklace, bracelet, or earrings. There is no need for discrimination here and any would be a very special present to someone dear to you. For my birthday, I was gifted this beautiful pearl ring with two small diamonds either side off of my parents. I feel so lucky and it is something I will cherish and wear for the rest of my life.

Perfume: Doesn’t everyone love to smell nice? Perfume is an excellent present because there are thousands of options to choose from, with all different price ranges. For as long as I can remember, I always said for my 21st birthday I want a Chanel perfume just like my grandma (who is my ultimate fashion icon). My lovely boyfriend made my childhood wish come true when he purchased this present for me. It came in the cutest little baggy and wrapping, and I’m not going to lie, a little tear fell from my eye as I unwrapped it. With any luck, your gift will have this same effect!

Bags & socks: This is a practical gift; buy someone a handbag, a clutch bag, a back pack, a travel pouch and there is a guarantee it will be used. I spotted a backpack just like the one I got from Michael Kors, but with studs (for triple the price), so when I saw this one in the Witchery store it was on my “definite wants” list. The colour is just ah-mazing and the material is so, so soft. It is going to become my travel carry-on bag for my up-coming holidays! Socks are such an easy, cute and affordable gift to give someone! Everyone loves socks, especially those with patterns and cute prints (like dogs). Mine are ribbed socks with glitter on the trimming in my favourite nude and grey colours! Thanks dear brother.

Make up: Now, this can become a pricey gift depending where you purchase your make up from. One of my oldest and dearest friends bought me a Stilla eyeshadow palette and a Laura Mercier highlighter (basically the God of all highlighters), which was the nicest present BUT very expensive. If you are buying a present for someone who loves make up but want to go for a more affordable present, try Priceline for brands like Loreal and Revlon, which sell really great products at a much cheaper cost. If you don’t mind spending more money, Mecca is your go to. They are THE make up store in Australia.

Gift vouchers: Referring back to Number 4, if you are wanting to get a gift for someone who loves make up, especially from Mecca or Mac, but don’t have the exact funds or know exactly what they want, get them a gift voucher! This is a guaranteed perfect present, as they can pick out exactly what they desire. You can even go with them! This works equally well for clothes and electronics. Grab a gift card from Myer, David Jones, JB HI FI, or Westfields.

Candles: A simple and affordable present that (almost) everyone loves. If you are looking for a nice candle to get someone, you cannot go wrong with Ecoya and Peter Alexander candles. This candle is delicious. It sits by my bedside table and I just love the calming, therapeutic effect it has on my sleep.

Scarf: A simple, practical and affordable present that will be used for years. Scarves are a great gift idea because they never go out of style and can be worn for years. It is always nice to revamp and add to your scarf collection though, so you can’t really go wrong with this as a present. My best friend and me got each other scarves for our birthday this year (our birthdays are a week apart) for our trip to China/Japan!

Flowers: If you can’t think of anything else, flowers are always a beautiful fall back. Discreetly ask the person what their favourite flowers are (if you don’t already know) and get them a big bunch of flowers to brighten their day!

Other gift ideas;

Books: Books are also a really nice, thoughtful present idea. A cook book, a photography book, any type of book that the person is interested in!

Vinyl or CD’s: These are a lost art and you can never go wrong with giving someone a hard copy of their favourite artist’s album.

Making the gift extra special: A nice ribbon and bow always makes the outside of a present look extra loved, along with matching wrapping paper and either a heartfelt or funny card depending on your relationship with the gift receiver.
